I studied art and
design, ceramics and exhibition design up to degree level and have been a
practising artist/craft person selling my work since the age of 17.
I have degree qualifications in Art and a post compulsory teaching degree. I regularly keep training in a
wide area of teaching and craft based subjects including Every Child Matters,
Equal Opportunities and the new Btec outlines/specifications for Art GCSE. They
are now very much in line with the Btec L2 & 3.
I have been teaching since 1988,Humm.. that makes it 28 years, teaching a wide range of clientèle from special needs, children’s workshops, children’s clubs 16-19 yr olds', HE
and degree students.
I have organized craft shows, exhibitions and fairs on a regular monthly
I have over 40 years’ experience of running workshops, studio management and craft
I have made props and sewn costumes for theatre and stage. Have a look at some of them some were made a few years ago and some more recently.
I have also been teaching art and crafts for 12 years in a prison / centre.
I was a single parent with 2 children who I brought up on my own from the age of 10 & 7.That was hard work I had 2, sometimes 3 jobs to make ends meet. But they are now all grown up @ 38 and 35,I am very proud of them both, they now have families of their own now. They have between them given me 6 beautiful grandchildren, Who I love to bits ,they have fun creating work at the ARTBOXuk such as paintings and clay-work.
My Art work is mostly inspired by nature, and yes you have guessed mostly butterflies and flowers. I love nature and I love my garden nearly as much as I do my studio.
In 2013 I took early retirement & redundancy after 28 years teaching in the same college, that was a real shock to the system. I am passionate about my teaching but I do love spending time creating my own work and running my workshops. so piloting the new venture of The ARTBOuk workshops in Firstly the shop in Whitton high street with the gallery, and now art & craft workshops at the Whitton Community Centre on Percy Road has given me the best of both worlds, and I love it.....
I recently -well over a year ago now joined a great company called BNI, Tudor branch . This is a networking group with lots of different local business people. We help each other to received and give references for work. Not only has this helped build my art and craft business/ARTBOXuk but I have made some great new friends.
I continue to make my bespoke original ceramics, textile sewn machine fabricated items for sale, normally at Fairs or commissions.I also now do private tuition for adults and children who cannot make it to the workshops for what ever reasons.
So its all busy and I still love it.......
